A multi-year product design collaboration to evolve Ava into a full-spectrum reproductive health app — from fertility tracking to medically regulated contraception.

Overview

Ava is a digital health company known for its clinically validated wearable that provides fertility and cycle-related insights. My role focused on helping the team refine the user experience, strengthen product clarity, and evolve the app into a more intuitive and scalable platform. Working closely with product, research, and engineering, I contributed to improving the experience across key parts of the user journey.

The Challenge

The previous app experience was built over several product cycles and naturally showed signs of fragmentation. Multiple entry points, uneven content depth, and variations in visual patterns made it harder for users to immediately grasp the core value of the product. Feedback pointed to moments of confusion during onboarding, data interpretation, and daily tracking—especially for first-time users. The challenge was to streamline complexity without losing the scientific depth that sets Ava apart.

The Solution

I partnered with the cross-functional team to refine the user flows, strengthen the information architecture, and improve UI clarity. We evaluated key screens, reworked interaction patterns, and aligned various parts of the app to improve consistency. My focus was on evolving what already existed: making the navigation more intuitive, enhancing the readability of time-sensitive data, and helping the team modernize the visual layer in a way that supported both the product vision and medical accuracy. Across several iterations, we introduced clearer visual hierarchy, improved onboarding steps, refined cycle insights, and updated components that later fed into broader design system work.

The Result

The refinements contributed to a more coherent, approachable experience for new and returning users. The updated flows made cycle data easier to understand at a glance, reduced friction across key tasks, and provided a stronger foundation for ongoing feature development. By improving clarity and consistency, the updated design helped Ava continue delivering trustworthy insights to women around the world while supporting the product’s evolution into global markets.
